Friday Round Up

Drunk is as Drunk Does

Remember when I scoffed at the drunk who was claiming he was sober (with a blood alcohol content of 0.16%) when he rammed into the car full of kids and babies, killing four of them?

Yesterday it took a jury only two hours and thirty-three minutes to find him guilty of four counts of vehicular manslaughter.

I think the part of the whole thing that pissed me off the most was that he had the nads to try and place the blame on the victims.

Just because the individuals in the 1984 Chrysler LeBaron were young, black, driving an older car and, yes, making poor choices as far as safety restraints go, does not give you the right to scapegoat them to try and save your own ass.

When you are driving 72mph on a residential street in the rain with a blood alcohol content that is twice the legal limit, that is the point at which you suck it up, accept responsibility, and pay the piper.

There is a special place in hell for this asshole.

My heart goes out to April Rice. Not only did she lose two daughters and a grandson, she had to sit through a trial featuring testimony that tried to pass it off as though it were her daughter's fault that the crash happened. My heart goes out to all the families that were there yesterday to hear the verdict handed down. Everyone lost something. All due to a bad choice.

Seeing a patteren?

A female Army lieutenant (Holley Wimunc)from Fort Bragg in North Carolina  is missing and her apartment was torched by what investigators believe to be arson (possibly the smell of gasoline gave that away).

On June 21st, Megan Lynn Touma, who was seven months pregnant, was found dead in her motel room. Spc. Touma had just arrived at Fort Bragg in North Carolina after serving three years in Germany.

On December 14, 2007, Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach went missing from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. She was eight months pregnant. Her body was found in a fire pit n the backyard of Corporal Cesar Armando Laurean. She had been scheduled to testify that Laurean had raped her.

What is up with female soldiers in North Carolina? Is there something about North Carolina that makes people feel it's acceptable to slaughter female soldiers?

High Gas Prices

Pissing you off? One day "gas strikes" don't work.

Try this.

Props to the Wine Dog for linkage.

Finally the Weekend

Huzzah!

So what's going on?

We'll be heading out to Hamburger Pattie's tonight for dinner with friends (including a distinctly non-local who has been in town on business and should get a kick out of the interior).

Second Saturday is this weekend, so there's always that.

Of course, given last weekend's festivities, I'd love to have a Driveway Party Saturday night and fill up Neighbor's driveway with lesbians.

Cause I think that would tickle me silly.

What are your plans?
