Internets Radio

You ever have a specific song or album that is, for you, such a touchstone to a time in your life that hearing it is like stepping back in time?

This song came on the radio the other day while I was driving to work and I was amazed at how everything in my seemed to still and concentrate at the way it made me feel. I can't even begin to describe it, but it was the same way I felt when I listened to it years ago, when the album was new. I have the feeling that the way I felt it was very different from the way that other people may have felt it.

But that's part of the magic of music.

It was actually their album Ten that was what I listened to so often during those times. This song didn't come out until three years later, but the sound of their music is so similar, the feel of their music so familiar to my heart that it's practically the same thing.

I pulled Ten up on iTunes (and then I bought it)(and now I have to figure out what on my iShuffle goes to make room for it) to try and decide what was my favorite song, but I can't choose. I think they were all favorites at one point or another and, by virtue of listening to the entire album on perpetual repeat, it's hard to pick one particular song out as being the overall favorite.

Of course, I've always had a habit of putting an album on perpetual repeat, which means there are quite a few songs and albums out there that will do this to me, the effect being slightly different every time.

What's your favorite album for taking a trip in the Way Back Machine?

I reminisce with scents.

1)Tears of the clown takes me back to being a kid in the sixties.
2) Physical Graffiti, the theme music to my teenage years
3) Grace Jones - Warm Leatherette/Nightclubbing - takes me back to Paris (because the clubs played her ad nauseaum, but it was cool.)
