Seen On My Run

Sunday's long run was 8 miles. The Urban Cow Half Marathon is nauseatingly close. I'm still slow as fuck and running a half assed, self made training program. Exciting!

And, of course, by "exciting" I mean "holy shit I'm going to die!"

Do you even have a program actually put together?

I did not get to Los Angeles on that bicycle by being half assed. That program was very strict.

I'm not sure I would go so far as to call it a "program".... I'm steadily increasing my weekly long run, doing the Tuesday night fun run, trying to make those not the only two times I run in a week. Lots of yoga, some XBike (for cardio/endurance plus leg speed), and I'm still trying to figure out how to fit in strength training 1-3 times per week (since I do full body & can't do it every day). This is my basic "get me to Urban Cow" plan, and I know I need to figure something out by then.

I do want to say, though, that having a half assed plan I'm keeping to makes me feel better about this than having a neurotically detailed plan that I'm blatantly ignoring. You know. Like my past events.

Oh. And I'm actually using intentional rest days instead of acting like I can do something every day and then falling on my face and going two or three days with nothing because I can't get out of bed.

PS: If I was attempting something as big as your AIDS Lifecycle ride, I'd pretty thoroughly fucked right now. Then again, there's no way I could compete in powerlifting by November, either.

Satan get behind me.

A half marathon is not nothing. It's something. It's a big something. It requires decent training. Focused training. Your long run should be on the same day of the week as the race and you should run 4-5 miles on T&TH. A recovery run on S or M depending on what day the race is. You should do 1 minute pick ups in the middle of the 4-5 mile runs and just chug out the long run. Tuesday should be flat pick ups and Thursday should be hill pick ups. THAT is a program. Learn it. Love it. You're welcome.
