Thank you for commenting on the cat issue. He had a similar issue last year, so I'm thinking that he probably needs to go on a wet food, with occasional dry dental kibble, for his diet.
I have two litter boxes for the two cats, one covered and one not. We're considering getting a third just to see if that will help with the problem. I'm also going to switch back to the previous litter.
When we got our first cat, Molly, we used Feline Pine. But, with two litter boxes in the house after we got Chico, that got to be a bit much for our budget, so I switched to tidy cats. Now that we settled, I tried going back to the feline pine, but I'm guessing Chico hates it.
Cats... so much more finicky than I am.
